Recycled bronze may also be used when its composition meets the project requirements. The ingots are supplied with a chemical analysis, which can be provided upon request.

Why choose a bronze alloy for a cast part?
Bronze alloys are often selected for their resistance to wear, corrosion and friction. Some alloys can also withstand significant mechanical loads.
Their properties vary considerably depending on their composition. An alloy suited to a bearing may not be appropriate for a gear. The same applies to a pump component or a heavily loaded part.
In industrial applications, the term “bronze” refers to several copper-based alloys. These alloys are not all composed solely of copper and tin.
Depending on the alloy, copper may be combined with zinc, lead, manganese or aluminum. It may also contain iron or silicon. These elements affect mechanical strength, machinability, conductivity and behaviour during casting.
The alloy must therefore be selected according to the actual operating conditions. The load, operating speed and temperature must be considered. Contact with water, tolerances and planned machining operations should also be evaluated.
Which bronze alloys are available?
Fonderie B. Marcoux produces several copper alloys associated with the ASTM B584 standard. This standard applies to sand castings intended for general applications.
The alloys currently included in our offering are:
- C83600 bronze;
- C86300 manganese bronze;
- C87300 silicon bronze;
- recycled bronze.
Each alloy has a distinct composition and set of properties. Our team can review the drawings, specifications and operating conditions. This assessment helps determine whether the requested alloy is suitable for the project.

What does the ASTM B584 standard cover?
The ASTM B584 standard sets requirements for sand castings made from various copper alloys. These castings are intended for general applications.
The standard covers chemical composition and certain mechanical properties. The applicable requirements may vary depending on the alloy and the project specifications.
When a part must comply with this standard, the complete alloy designation must appear on the drawing. The applicable edition, required properties and necessary inspections must also be specified.
Simply stating the word “bronze” is therefore not enough to define the required material.

How is the bronze composition controlled?
The bronze alloys used by Fonderie B. Marcoux are purchased in the form of ingots. Each batch is supplied with a chemical analysis. This documentation identifies the composition of the incoming material and supports better traceability.
The chemical analysis can be provided to the client upon request. It is particularly useful when a part must meet a specific UNS alloy designation or the ASTM B584 standard. Internal specifications or industry-specific requirements may also require this documentation.
